Ebooks at your library

While the library is closed to the public, we want to provide digital materials that you can access at home. The library subscribes to several e-materials databases, and has added a few more during this COVID-19 pandemic. This post includes e-book collections you will need a library card to access, and e-book collections you can access with no library information.

We encourage you to try as many of these collections as you want, and we look forward to when we will be able to provide print materials again!

Resources that need a library card to access:

If you have a library card with the Arrowhead Library System you can access the collections below. The materials available include Adult and Children’s books, audio books, and magazines. You can access these collections on your computer, or download an app on your device. You will need wifi access to search for materials, but once the items are downloaded to your device you can read or listen with no internet access!

To get started, click the following icons. To learn more about signing up, keep reading.

Overdrive (and it’s app, called Libby)

This collection includes e-books (for all ages) and e-audio books.

This collection includes e-magazines (for all ages).

To create an account you must log in with your library card number (found on the back of your physical library card). You will also need a library pin number, which is often created using the last four digits of your telephone number. If you are not sure what your pin number is, if your library card has expired, or if you do not have a library card in the system, we recommend you call the Arrowhead Library System at 218-741-3840. They can update and make changes to your library account while the Virginia Public Library is closed.

If you do not have a library card and would like to get one, please visit the Arrowhead Library System’s website at https://www.alslib.info/. There you can fill out a form and sign up for a library card, which will allow you to use our library resources!

Resources that do not need a library card:

There are several e-books collections the library subscribes to that you can access without a library card!

eLibrary MN is a collection of databases made for Minnesota residents. Their database includes resources like newspapers, magazines, job resources, student research, and more. They also host a collection of e-books (for all ages) through a service called BiblioBoard. While this collection does not require a library card, you may be prompted to create a free BiblioBoard account. Click the icon below to get started with eLibrary MN!
