Summer Reading Events
Welcome to Summer Events at the Virginia Public Library!
Below are our summer events happening in the month of June, followed by events that will be happening weekly this summer. This blog post will be updated to show July and August events as we come closer to those months! All our summer events will be outdoors events and will be on the front lawn of the library, or at the Virginia Market Square farmer’s market by Silver Lake. Read further to see what events we have coming up this summer!
June 8 – Bubble Day Storytime – 10:30am
This kick-off event includes an outdoor storytime on the library lawn, bubble wand kits, lawn games, and, of course, bubbles! This event is recommended for young children and their families.
June 15 – Messy Art Day on the library lawn– 1-3pm
This event includes two messy craft stations on the library front lawn – making marbled paper and tie die! You can bring your own cotton items to tie die, or use the cotton bandanas the library is providing (in a limited quantity). This art is messy, so wear clothes that can get messy! This event is recommended for middle grade children and teens. Younger children may need adult help with these crafts.
June 22 – Big Truck Day Storytime on the library lawn – 10:30am
This event includes an outdoor storytime on the library lawn, and ends with Big Trucks from the City of Virginia! The street in front of the library (5th Ave) will be closed for this event so children and families can walk by the trucks, take pictures, and ask questions of the City truck drivers! This event is recommended for young children and their families.
June 29 – Storytime on the library lawn – 10:30am
This event includes an outdoor storytime on the library lawn, followed by outdoor crafts and activities! Be prepared to sing, dance, and listen to some stories! This event is recommended for young children and their families.
